My name is Dr Ursula Szmygiel, and I am a professionally trained Counselling Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC) and the Luxembourgish Psychological Society (SLP). I feel passionate and privileged to accompany my clients towards a happier, more fulfilled, and peaceful life. To me, this profession is more of a ‘philosophy’ than just a job, as it aligns with my core values: integrity, authenticity, and respect.
My main research interests include transgenerational trauma and its impact on families and society.
I have over a decade of experience working in a variety of settings, including National Healthcare Service (NHS) primary and secondary care, private practice, and organisations in the UK and Luxemburg. My training spans several universities in both the UK and Poland, and I completed my Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at City, University of London.
I have worked with individuals facing a wide range of psychological difficulties, from common mental health challenges such as depression, anxiety, and work-related stress, to more complex clinical presentations including trauma, personality difficulties, and sexual abuse. My practice is informed by multiple therapeutic approaches—psychodynamic, humanistic, and cognitive-behavioural—since I believe there is no 'one-size-fits-all' therapy model.
I believe that every person has the potential to make a difference in their own life. As a Counselling Psychologist, my role is to provide a safe, confidential space where we can explore your unique life experiences and how they may be influencing your present emotions and behaviours. Together, we will work to understand your past and create meaningful change in your present.
I draw from a range of therapeutic modalities to ensure my approach is tailored to your specific needs. These include psychodynamic therapy, which focuses on understanding past experiences and unconscious processes, humanistic approaches - including Gestalt and Person-centred modalities - that promote personal growth and self-acceptance, and cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), which aims to change negative thought patterns and behaviours.
Sessions last for 50 minutes and are held at the same time each week, as far as is practicable. Psychological therapy sessions are conducted at the Medical Centre in Limpertsberg, Luxembourg City, providing a safe therapeutic environment.
Payment can be made via bank transfer or in cash. I kindly request that clients provide 48 hours' notice if they need to cancel a session. Without such notice, the full session fee will be charged.
I am based in Luxembourg City, and offer psychological therapy through inperson sessions at the Medical Centre in Limpertsberg.
